tl;dr

  • You can now connect your Finiac account to any brokerage

  • Import any portfolio with one click

  • Re-sync your assets and allocations anytime

You know how, when you created your Finiac account, you had to recreate your portfolios manually? Searching for assets one by one, hunting down the exact number of shares?

We noticed that that was super annoying/time-consuming/a PITA, so we fixed it.

Introducing:

One-click portfolio import

Now, when you want to add a new portfolio to your Finiac account, you’ll see this:

Click that button, and you’ll be able to choose your brokerage. Search for Fidelity, for example:

Next, just select the portfolio you’d like to import and boom — there it is in your Finiac account. You can connect with just about any brokerage out there.

We think this is a huge improvement — it’s a lot faster, first of all, but also:

It’s secure

We’re using a service called Plaid to make this happen. Plaid is a rock star when it comes to connecting financial apps quickly and securely. In fact, if you’ve ever connected a bank account with your brokerage, you might even have used it before.

Plaid’s data handling is top notch. Your privacy on both sides of the connection is absolutely secure.

Keep it synced (if you want)

The connection between Finiac and your brokerage is what’s known as a one-way sync.

That is, your brokerage sends your portfolio information into Finiac, but Finiac will never send any data back in the other direction.

No change that you make in Finiac will affect your actual brokerage account.

Because Finiac is a portfolio design tool, we want to make sure you always feel free to try out any adjustment you like, without making real-world changes.

Once you’ve found a configuration you like, you’ll head over to your brokerage to finalize it, just as you’ve always done.

If we notice that your Finiac portfolio no longer matches the one in your brokerage, we’ll give you a chance to sync them back up:

Click that “Update Now” link, and we’ll match your Finiac portfolio up with your brokerage.

Why it matters

This is about convenience, of course, but it’s also about accuracy, and points to where we’re headed with Finiac.

We tossed out the phrase “portfolio design” above — which is a new term, but honestly, it’s how we think of the app.

No matter how you invest, we want to give you a real, tactile way to build a portfolio. Nothing abstract. No funky jerry-rigged spreadsheets or patchwork solutions. Just a clear, time-tested method for diversifying smarter and earning the best possible reward for your risk.

Connecting Finiac to your brokerage makes it a lot easier to put your ideas directly into action.

Isn’t that what we’re all looking for, in the end?

Don't fall prey to loss aversion
